I grew up in Windsor and although I haven't lived there for several years I always appreciated the quality of food available there. Sounds strange I know in an overwhelmingly blue-collar city where Tim Hortons seems to be the most popular restaurant but Windsor does have some excellent food. Mezzo is no exception. The menu we had from last year featured osso bucco but they had replaced it with braised lamb shank. That's a nice trade in my book and it was fantastic. Served with some braising liquid over a bed of mashed potatoes it was delicious - exactly what braised lamb shank should be. Our server was friendly and helpful and we chose a nice bottle of Valpolicella from the well-balanced wine list. The week before our meal Mezzo had celebrated its 10th anniversary. It is easy to see why they have been in business for so long. I have had lots of meals in Windsor's Little Italy area but this was my first time at Mezzo. The chefs understand the idea of selecting good dishes and doing them right. Mezzo is not only comparable to more expensive restaurants in larger cities it is better than many of them I have tried. And that is pretty much the highest compliment one can pay.
