Intense and bold reds tend to be from warmer wine producing regions such as Australia, Southern Italy, Spain, Portugal, and California. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Zinfandel (aka Primitivo) are typical varietals used in these wines. These wines are usually most enjoyable when they are aged.
